Ask Elicia: Vol. I, No. One

When the people who love you most can't see what you see.

A reader wrote in about her family. She’s launching a coaching ministry for young women, and her relatives keep asking when she’ll get a real job. She loves them, and their doubt is wearing her down.

First, know this: their worry is often love wearing a heavy coat. Many of our parents and grandparents built stability the hard way. A path without a steady paycheck looks risky to them because, for a long time, it was.

Share your progress, not your plans.

Second, you don’t need their full understanding to keep going. Share your progress, not your plans. Results speak in a language everyone understands.

Third, find your people. Build a circle of women who are becoming too. When your family can’t cheer yet, let your sisters hold the pom-poms.

With grace, Elicia
