Your Self-Care Can Change with the Season

October 19 | Becoming

The season can change before your routine catches up. You reach for a sweater in the morning, but your calendar still carries the pace of summer. Evenings feel shorter. Work grows busier. You begin thinking about everything you hoped to accomplish before the year ends. Alongside those seasonal changes, you may be adjusting to something personal: a new responsibility, a relationship shift, or a different direction for your life.

Notice what needs adjusting

Give yourself time to consider what would support you now.

Notice what needs adjusting

Look at an ordinary weekday. Does your morning leave enough time to eat? Are evening commitments pushing bedtime later? Is there something you regularly need but keep forgetting to prepare? Choose one adjustment that would make the day easier. Set out your clothes. Prepare a simple breakfast. Move a commitment. Ask someone to share a task. Let your routine respond to your circumstances.

Begin herbal learning in the kitchen

Practical herbalism can start with a familiar culinary herb. This week, try thyme in a vegetable and white bean soup. Prepare your usual soup recipe and add a small amount of packaged culinary thyme according to taste. Notice its fragrance as the soup cooks and how it contributes to the finished meal. Write down what you used and whether you would change the amount next time. Learning about herbs can be this ordinary: identifying an ingredient, preparing it thoughtfully, and observing the result.

Reflect on timing

Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 describes a range of seasons within human life, including joy, grief, building, and letting go. Read the passage without rushing to label everything happening around you. Then ask: What requires my attention in this season? What can reasonably wait? You may discover that caring for yourself requires a different pace than the one you originally planned.

Scripture for reflection: Ecclesiastes 3:1–8.

Today’s practice: Adjust one daily routine and prepare one meal that makes tomorrow easier.

Journal prompt: What does this season require that my current routine has not yet made room for?

XOXO, Elicia
