Before saying yes to another weekend plan, look at the week you have just lived.
Arrange a visit, a meal, or a conversation you would enjoy.
What required the most attention? What did you keep postponing? Have you had time to enjoy the people and activities you care about?
Your answers can help you plan a weekend that supports you as the holiday season begins.
Choose one meaningful connection
Arrange a visit, a meal, or a conversation you would enjoy.
Keep it realistic. A short call with someone you love may fit better than an outing that requires several hours of travel.
Ask what would work for the other person, too. Simple plans are often easier to keep.
Finish one useful preparation
Choose one holiday task that will make the coming weeks easier.
Confirm a gathering date. Make a shopping list. Discuss who is bringing food. Check the supplies you already have before buying more.
Give the task a stopping point so it does not occupy the entire day.
Reserve time for your own enjoyment
Choose an activity because you want to do it.
Read under a blanket. Watch a favorite film. Visit a bookstore. Spend an unhurried hour with someone whose company you enjoy.
If you are accustomed to using every opening to catch up, putting enjoyment on the calendar may take practice. Start with an appointment you can keep.
Prepare a meal with attention
Try parsley in a grain bowl or thyme in a familiar soup.
Notice the herb’s fragrance and how it tastes with the other ingredients. Write down one combination you would enjoy again.
Sit down while the meal is ready. Allow yourself time to eat.
Pause with Scripture
Luke 5:15–16 describes growing demands around Jesus’ ministry and His withdrawal for prayer.
As you read, consider when you can step away from activity and spend time with God this weekend. Bring your actual concerns, hopes, and gratitude into that time.
Scripture for reflection: Luke 5:15–16.
Your self-care appointment: Schedule one period of enjoyment and one quiet pause. Leave time between them and your other commitments.
